Next-Gen Suzuki Alto: A Significant Weight Reduction for Improved Performance

Good news for car lovers. The Suzuki Alto is one of the best-selling cars in the Japanese market. The current Alto is in its 9th generation, which was introduced in 2021.

Now a new report suggests that Suzuki can introduce a new 10th generation Alto in 2026. The company started its production in 1979. Since then, many changes have been seen in it.

Alto, in particular, has seen a big change in the kerb weight. It is now reported that the company is going to reduce the weight of the 10th generation Alto by about 100 kg.

It has also been the best-selling car in the history of the Indian market.

The weight of the alto kept increasing and decreasing

When Suzuki launched the first generation Alto, it weighed 545 kg. By the 9th generation, it had grown to 680 kg. The 7th generation of Alto weighed the highest at 740 kg. The company was able to reduce the weight of Alto by more than 100 kg with its new Heartect platform.

In this case, the weight of the 8th generation Alto has increased to 620 kg. Suzuki once again wants to reduce the weight of this hatchback in this way.

The weight of the current model of Alto is 680 kg. It is believed that the new generation Alto will weigh around 580 kilograms.

Use of lightweight and strong materials

The company can use light weight material in different components used in the car to reduce its weight. For example, the company has reduced its weight by giving the new Z12 engine in the New Swift. It is a light and high-efficiency engine.

It is also used in other Maruti cars like WagonR, Dzire, Baleno, and Fronx. The 10th-gen Alto is likely to use an improved version of the Heartect platform.

The Heartect platform is lightweight and uses ultra- and advanced high-tensile steel (UHSS and AHSS). This helps in enhancing the safety of passengers in the event of an accident.

The New Alto offers 30 km/l fuel efficiency

With the weight loss, the mileage of the New Alto will be even better. Coming to the current Maruti Alto K10, its mileage is 24.39 kmpl with manual gearbox and 24.90 kmpl with AGS.

At the same time, the CNG variant returns a mileage of 33.85 km/kg. With a weight loss of 100 kg, the 10th generation Alto can deliver a mileage of around 30 km/l. The mileage figure of the CNG variant can go up to 37-38 km/kg.

Suzuki Alto Price

Now let’s talk about the prize. The current Suzuki Alto petrol model is priced at 1,068,000 yen (about Rs 5.83 lakh) ex-showroom, and the mild-hybrid variant is priced at 1,218,800 yen (about Rs 6.65 lakh).

The starting price of the new Alto is expected to be around 1 million yen (about Rs 5.46 lakh).
